Cute and Fashion Forward!

Helloooo Kitty! I decided to do this nail design for my mother. I love Hello Kitty but she knows so much about the character and her friends. This design is simple and can be shifted so the face is pointing towards the bottom of the nail instead of the side. I chose to do it to the side so I could incorporate more of her face onto the nail.

I stared with my base coat and painted O.P.I.'s Alpine Snow for the white of her face. I then sort of mapped out where the eyes, nose and whiskers would be by pushing lightly into the white polish just before it dried to create a small indentation. I did this because I wanted to create the yellow of the nose before I outlined it in black but I didn’t want to have to rush to get the outline done before the black nail polish I was dipping my tools into dried. I took Sally Hansen’s Mellow Yellow from the Xtreem wear line and dipped a bobby pin in it to create the nose. Her nose is oblong so you may have to create two dots and connect them, otherwise just use a flattened edge of a toothpick to get the same affect. Then I took a regular toothpick and dipped it into O.P.I’s Razzle Dazzler from their Nicole line and created the eyes, the outline of the nose and the whiskers. The next step is the accessory because as we all know Hello Kitty wouldn’t go anywhere without something fabulous on her head. I chose to make a red flower but you could create a pink bow, a yellow flower or bow, a row of flowers around her ear, or any other cute accessory! Finish off with your favorite top coat to seal in your look!

Comical Designs!

Batman! My favorite superhero! I love his action packed adventures, scandalous storylines, and that rubber suit doesn’t hurt! I’ve worked hard to be able to draw the Bat-symbol  and I wanted to show it off on my nails. This look is very simple as long as you have a steady hand. Get a picture reference for the Bat-symbol if you need one and let’s get started!

As always, I stared with O.P.I.’s Nail strengthener as my base. The light yellow is Sally Hansen’s Mellow Yellow from the Xtreem wear line. I had to use a few thick coats to get the texture right on my nails. I then pooled O.P.I’s Razzle Dazzler from their Nicole line and dipped my eyeliner brush in it and carefully pained the Bat-symbol. Take your time and if you don’t feel like you can get the tips as pointy as you like, us a toothpick to do the points. Black is the most forging polish you can use so don’t worry if you have to go over a few parts more than once. For the “DA NA NA NA” I took a small brush and dipped it in a top coat so I could mold it into a perfect straight line. I used the Razzle Dazzler again and let the brush make the lines for me. To finish it off I used Sally Hansen’s Super Shine Shinny Top Coat.

Expect more comic book inspired nails to come!

Spring Sensations!

Cherry Blossoms are a beautiful way to brighten up your day and in the winter a lot of us could use a pick up! I decided to do this nail design because the past few days have been very dreary. I needed something to lift my spirits and make me feel the warmth of spring, if just for a moment.

I started with O.P.I.’s Nail strengthener as my base and placed Sally Hansen’s Ivy League from the Xtreem wear line as the background. After two coats I went in with an eye liner brush to start the branches in O.P.I’s Razzle Dazzler from their Nicole line. You can also use a dark brown but I prefer the high contrast between the silhouette of the branches and the light pink of the blossoms. With a toothpick I then tapered off the ends of the branches and added a few thin ones. I couldn’t find a light pink that I really liked so I mixed Revlon’s 680, Revlon Red, and O.P.I’s Alpine Snow to create the perfect color. (2:1 ratio of white to red) I dotted for little spots in an X formation to create the blossoms, using a Bobby pin for the big blossoms and a toothpick for the small ones. Then I went back in with the Alpine snow and dotted the middles of the flowers to finish off the blossoms. The top coat I used was Sally Hansen’s Super Shine Shinny Top Coat.

For my right hand I stuck with a simplified design. Using the same colors I created cherry blossoms on the green background. When I finished with that look it seemed to be more ‘Scooby Doo’ than Japanese Cherry Blossom so I added in the black dots to tie the two designs together. If I were to do it again I would put the black dots down first so the blossoms floated over them, giving the nails more dimension.

A Cute Classic!

I love pandas and what better way to kick this blog off then by doing a classic! These cute mammals are perfect for a whimsical day. I didn't paint their whole face on the nails because I wanted to make it seem as if they were just peeking over my nails.

I started out with O.P.I.'s Natural Nail Strengthener for the base coat and let it set completely before I started the little faces. I used the brush to create a squished circle on the edges of my nails in O.P.I.'s Alpine Snow to create the head shape. I then used a bobby pin dipped in O.P.I.'s Razzle Dazzler off of the Nicole line to create the ears, the eyes, and the little nose. I've found that it's better to have the dots for the eyes touch so that your panda looks more cartoon-like. Go back in with a lighter hand in the Alpine snow to create the white eye dots. For the thumb I had to use the bobby pin again but for the rest I just used an orange stick. I wanted to ad an extra layer of cute so on my thumb I put a little white dot on the nose to make it seem as if it had a little shine to it. I could have done this to the other nails but I felt like the their noses were too small. As always I finished with Sally Hanson's Supper Shine Shiny Top Coat to seal it all in.

This look is easily modified if you wanted to add a light pink, a light brown, or even a light green as the background. Have fun with it!

New Day

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by! I decided to make this blog to share my obsession with nail art. I don't have any professional gear as of yet so Bobby-pins and toothpicks are my best friends! As I practice more and get more ideas I hope to get better and better at designing on such a small canvas. I hope that I can help you to find inspiration and some fun new designs!
Let's get started!
